Chocolate Pie

This recipe is actually my dad’s and I learned how to make it with him. This was one of the first desserts I’ve ever learned to make, besides cookies (of course). To this day, on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s, we still make this pie together to bring to our family gatherings.

What you need:

Microwave

Microwave safe cooking bowl (I usually just use a glass bowl)

1 ½ cup sugar

½ cup cocoa powder

¼ cup corn starch

3 cups milk

3 egg yolks

1 ½  teaspoon butter

1 ½ teaspoon vanilla

¼ cup chocolate chips

Cool Whip (for on top)

Directions:

First put the cornstarch, sugar, and cocoa powder into a bowl and stir. Then slowly add the milk and stir until the mixture has dissolved. Then place the bowl into the microwave for 10 minutes. When there are about 3 minutes left on the microwave you need to watch the mixture to make sure it does not overflow and ruin your microwave. After the time is up stir the mixture and put it back in the microwave for 2 to 3 minutes, making sure to watch it. Sift the egg yolks out of the egg and then add a couple of spoonfuls of the pudding to the eggs and stir so the eggs do not scramble. Then stir the egg mixture into the bowl and add the butter and vanilla. Return to the microwave for another 3 minutes. Take it out and stir in the chocolate chips. Then pour the mixture into the pie shell.* Let cool and then add the cool whip on top. Voila, you are finished and can now enjoy your pie.

*You can make your pie dough from scratch but I do not have a recipe because I ain’t got no time for that.
