As a way to break the social norm, homecoming candidate senior Taylor Culbertson decided to not have an escort for the football homecoming coronation on Friday, Oct. 4.

“I want to be able to carry myself, to show people that you don’t need people to hold your hand or arm with every accomplishment you make,” Culbertson said. “I want to set an example for strong women and men. Why have everyone wondering why you picked that boy or girl as your escort? This is your time to shine.”

Leading up to Culbertson being nominated as a senior candidate, senior Kennedy Tomasi Tomasi stood beside her when they heard the news.

“We were walking in the halls together when she got handed the slip, we immediately both started squealing and jumping up and down. It was a really awesome moment,” Tomasi said. “This has been her dream since freshman year and I honestly think it’s inspiring that she doesn’t care what other people think.”

With winners announced tonight, Culbertson is looking forward to competing in it alongside the other candidates .

“I’m honored to be nominated as homecoming queen and everyone that has helped me get here has made me feel so special,” Culbertson said. “I’m so freaking happy for my other beauties running too, I hope they are as excited as I am.”
