Dragon Wellness Club Sponsor Anita Walker shares her thoughts about suicide and things that can bring people out of it. The month that hits so many hearts in so many ways. Suicide Awareness Month could affect people mentally, physically or even emotionally.
Suicide is something no one wants to witness, and this month is the perfect opportunity to spread awareness. “Awful, gut wrenching sickness in the darkest depths of your heart that you never want to feel again,” Walker said.
“Openly discussing suicide can be a vital step in prevention,” Walker said, “As it helps break the stigma and encourages those struggling to seek help, while silence often perpetuates ignorance and isolation, making it harder for individuals to access the support they need.”
Sometimes it’s okay to openly discuss how each feels about suicide so you could seek help, and get every help you can to get yourself out of it. Getting put into this type of situation could affect you long term throughout your life.
There are many ways to get you out of suicide other than this, and there are a lot of reasons to be alive right now. Walker explains that her faith was a journey that was found to keep her going. She has reasons to be alive and that’s because of her two sons.
She wants the best for them and knows that her care and love for them won’t be shown by anyone else but her.
Even focusing on people in your city could help spread awareness to the world. “By focusing on the students and communities here in Pittsburg,” Walker said. “Right here where I am, in hopes that those I am sharing this with will help me to reach others that I wouldn’t be able to reach.”
Spread awareness about suicide and let everyone know there is a cure. Walker is a health teacher at Pittsburg High School that helps kids with mental health issues and general issues.
Walker believes it’s important for people to realize their own worth. “The world is better with you in it,” Walker said.
