“This is my 7th year, [I teach] Honors English 10 and AP Language and Composition. [AP Lang— since I’ve already taught those students before and we start out with a good relationship. [A unit I like to teach is] not really a unit, but we do a yearlong project called the Great Ideas Project in which the students pick a problem in society that they want to fix and propose a solution that they develop into a presentation for a community event at the end of the year. I like it because it gives students choice in what they want to research, and I enjoy seeing the amazing ideas that come out of their projects. They give me hope for our future! [My favorite book to teach is] not just one book, but I teach a literature circle unit in Honors English 10 that includes modern novels that center around current racial injustice issues to complement our reading of To Kill a Mockingbird, and I really enjoy that unit. It includes books such as Just Mercy, The Hate U Give, Dear Martin, and American Street.”
